I decided one way to make myself engage more with creative writing, was to ‘have a go’. And to apply a little pressure, I’m publishing my attempts on this website.

Before retiring, I ran a content training and consulting business helping government, higher education and corporate clients improve their online content. So while I’m more than familiar with writing, and in particular with plain language writing, I feel creative writing is another thing entirely.
I’ve long loved erasure poetry and haiku, but have barely created any myself. Apart from when I took an amazing haiku course with Clark Strand (don’t blame his tuition for my fairly basic attempts).
And while I regularly read contemporary poetry – nature poetry, poetry of presence, spiritual poetry – I haven’t made much of a start writing this way. But I’m hoping that will change.
In late February, I attended a sampler generative writing session online that was fabulous. I’ve since signed up for the year-long Right to Write course offered by Sarah Sentilles.
Feel free to comment on anything I publish here. Constructive feedback would be useful. I’m certainly willing to act on anything I feel will improve my writing. And if you find anything that resonates with you, I’d love you to let me know.
